Pre & Post Care

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

To achieve optimal results and minimize the chance of bleeding or bruising at the injection site, please follow these pre-treatment instructions:

  • Avoid all blood-thinning medications and supplements for one week prior to your appointment. This includes over-the-counter medication such as aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and Aleve. Also, avoid herbal supplements such as garlic, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, St. John’s Wort, and omega-3/fish oil capsules. If you have a cardiovascular history, please check with your medical provider prior to stopping use of aspirin or other prescribed blood-thinning medications.

  • Refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages 12 hours before or after your treatment to limit potential bruising.

  • Consider any upcoming events or pictures within the two weeks following your appointment, as bruising can occur.

  • Make sure to eat something prior to your appointment to avoid feeling lightheaded.

  • Lip filler patients: inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores around your mouth to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment (Valtrex or acyclovir 500 mg, twice a day for 1-2 days before and 3 days after treatment).

  • For all filler patients: ensure that there are no signs or symptoms of any active infection, including colds, flu, UTIs, or any other infective process.

Post-Treatment Instructions:

To ensure optimal results and minimal discomfort after your treatment, please follow these post-treatment instructions:

  • Wrinkle Relaxer Patients: Avoid rubbing your face, putting your face in a face cradle for a massage, exercise, and hot saunas or baths for at least four hours. Remember that it takes three to seven days for wrinkle relaxers such as Jeuveau and Botox to start working and it will peak at day 14.

    • Touch-ups are scheduled between days 12 and 21 post-treatment, and additional units may be necessary for ideal results. There will be no touch-ups beyond the 21-day mark. If you feel that you have more movement than you would like after day 21, increasing the dose at your next appointment may be appropriate.

    • For 2 weeks avoid

  • For filler clients: Avoid significant movement or massage of the treated area unless instructed by your provider. Lip patients please note that filler will feel lumpy and bumpy for weeks, which is normal. If after 3 weeks a lump is visible or if after four weeks a lump is bothering you, we will schedule a time for you to come in for it to be assessed.

  • If you experience swelling, you may apply a cool compress for 15 minutes each hour.

  • You may use Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil (ibuprofen) for discomfort.

  • For best results, try to sleep face up and slightly elevated if you experience swelling.

What to expect Post Filler:

You may feel temporary numbness or tingling after treatment. Moderate swelling and redness is to be expected.  Bruising can last up to 2 weeks or more.  Tenderness is expected in the treatment area for 72 hours.

Additional notes about dermal fillers:

Dermal fillers last, on average, 6-15 months.  The most typical side effects (bruising, swelling, redness) are temporary and will resolve. Lumps and bumps are normal and almost always resolve without intervention within 2-4 weeks. If after 4 weeks something is visible, we can schedule a time to be assessed.

More Treatment Specific Notes:

  • Post-Peel can be very itchy. You may use 1% hydrocortisone cream to help with the itch and if you tolerate Benadryl (diphenhydramine), try 25mg of Benadryl every 8 hours. This may make you sleepier than usual. Peeling typically starts day 3 or 4 and lasts a couple days. Avoid picking!! Do not pull of the flaking skin. Let if fall off. Additionally, the amount of peeling does not reflect the efficacy of the peel.

  • Post Microneedling: Redness will resolve in 1-2 days. Light flaking is not uncommon on day 3-4 but does not always happen. Results of microneedling are not visualized for 4-6 weeks and multiple treatments will be necessary for ideal results.
